Why I Became a Doula at 19

I didn't plan this. I didn't grow up saying "I want to be a doula." But I've been around birth my whole life. I was there for my sister's hospital birth. I was there for home births in my family. I've seen both sides — what it looks like when a mom has support and what it looks like when she doesn't.

I started pursuing doula work on my own, and my mom actually followed after me. This was my calling first. Not because anyone told me to. Because I'd already seen what real support looks like and I wanted to be that for other women.

That's it. That's the whole story.

Yeah, I'm Young

I know what people think. I can see it when I tell them my age. What does she know? Fair question. Here's my answer: I've trained. I've studied. I've sat with women who've been doing this for 20+ years and I've listened. I bring something that experience can't teach — I'm hungry for this. I'm not burned out. I'm not checking boxes. Every family I take on gets everything I have.

David was a shepherd kid when God picked him. Mary was young when she said yes. I'm not comparing myself to them — I'm just saying God's never been interested in resumes.

My Faith Isn't Separate From This

I didn't add faith to my doula practice like a feature. It's not a selling point. It's the reason I do this at all. I believe birth is sacred. I believe women are built for it. I believe that baby is a gift, and the process of bringing that life into the world deserves someone who takes it seriously.

"Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward." — Psalm 127:3

Where I'm Going

I'm building this one family at a time. No rush. No shortcuts. Every birth teaches me something. Every mama I serve makes me better at this. I'm 19 and I'm just getting started, and I'm not in a hurry — I'm in it for the long haul.
